Another jewel from my bags of things "to work on" that have been sitting around for years. Lately have been going through and trying to decide which things i will really work on and which it's time to pass on. As you will see below it needs some resewing and i hate to sew so that made it easier to make the decision. It is an amazing piece; pix don't do it justice as black is so hard to photograph.
It is a wool, so sturdy, and then has all that gorgeous soutache/passementerie work. Has a black ruffle around the neck which is original but it should probably be replaced as is coming loose (could just wear it without the ruffle but ruffle does add a nice touch). If wanted to stay original could resew but it is a little worn. There are large hooks that close the cape at the neck and down upper front. It is in amazing shape for something this age as the only issue is that some of the soutache work has come loose and needs to be sewn back down (why it was in my bag and as mentioned above i just do not have the patience as i hate to sew).
I lightened the last several pix to better show this. So my loss is your gain.
There is some slight wear to silk on lining near neck closure as well as one small place on side near edge that is starting to wear. However, none of this is noticeable when worn. Simply divine piece of edwardian fashion. Would be nice for winter black wedding.
It 24.5" long from top of collar to hem in back and 23" down each side in front.
